Pros and Cons of All-in-One Car Seat

If you own a car, an infant car seat is probably one of the first items you think of purchasing once you find out you’re expecting!

Now all that’s left is to answer this question: which car seat should you buy?

There are plenty of types of infant car seats you can choose from, like regular car seats, multipurpose ones from travel systems or all-in-one car seats.

Today, we’ll be covering everything you need to know about all-in-one car seats!

What is an all-in-one car seat?

This type of baby car seat is basically a convertible car seat that can serve the functions of a rear-facing infant car seat, a forward-facing toddler seat, and booster seat.

They’re specifically designed to grow with your child from infancy to childhood. Typical models can accommodate children from 0 to 12 years old.

That means that rather than buying three separate variations of children’s car seats as your child grows, you can keep this same unit through the years!

Comparing pros and cons of all-in-one car seat

Many parents ask -- why would I pick a regular car seat over this one if it promises so many more functions?

Here is a quick list of pros and cons to consider before purchasing one, so you can weigh out your options and decide if it works well for you.

Pros

While the average all-in-one seat will almost always cost more than a regular infant car seat or toddler seat, it may actually be the most economical choice in terms of long-term value.

These car seats are sturdy and are built to last a long time with you and your little one, eliminating the need to constantly buy multiple car seats as your child outgrows previous ones. The last thing you need is a car seat that you’ll only use for a year or two!

And since you’ll likely be using the seat for many years, your little one will eventually get comfortable in the space. This means it’ll be easier to use as your child will be more cooperative and willing to be strapped in.

While this may not sound like a huge benefit, many parents struggle with getting their tots to settle down in the car!

Cons

This model of baby car seats is typically heavier and larger than regular ones, therefore making them difficult to transport. Most don’t come with handles, which can make them difficult to carry as well.

And with the all-in-one car seat built to last until a child is 12, this could mean the car seat would be too big for newborns or smaller babies. It may take some time before your tot fits perfectly in the seat.

Another thing to take note of is if the seat is built to last, especially if you’re planning to use it for 10 or more years! (Looking out for a reliable brand, or checking up on reviews may help with overcoming this.
